Anna Kendrick was born on 9 August 1985, in Portland, Maine. Her father, William Kendrick, worked as a history teacher, and her mother, Janice, as an accountant. She has an older brother, Michael Cooke Kendrick, who went on to become an actor. She is of mixed English, Irish, and Scottish descent.
Anna began her career when she was only 12 years of age. She played a supporting role in High Society, a popular 1998 Broadway musical. Her brilliant performance earned her a Theatre World Award. She also earned nominations for Featured Actress in a Musical at the Drama Desk Awards, as well as at the Tony Awards.
