Jessica Lange developed on her own to become an actress. She did not have a family member or mentor to help establish her acting career, unlike Jane or Peter Fonda. She also did not have the benefit of spending a full four years studying acting in a college or university setting. She studied acting and modeling for three years before landing a role in the adaptation of the Dino De Laurentiis-directed movie “King Kong” in 1976. It didn’t help that the movie as a whole, not just her performance, was a dud. But Jessica learned a valuable lesson from the event.
