Jessica Lange Biography
Lange received a second chance in her subsequent movie, a remake of “The Postman Always Rings Twice,” five years later, in 1981. She came back in amazing fashion. She had learned a lesson from her role in “King Kong” in 1976, which seemed to be very important.
She played actress Frances Farmer in her subsequent movie, “Frances,” released in 1982. She received a lot of accolades for her performance and an Academy Awards nomination for Best Actress. Unfortunately, she was unsuccessful in winning. She also starred opposite Dustin Hoffman in a minor role in the more well-known movie “Tootsie” in the same year. She received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her work in that movie, which she later won. So, excluding the “King Kong” fiasco, she received her first Academy Award less than two years after starting her career as an actor.
She continued to play various roles in a range of movies throughout the rest of the 1980s and 1990s, including, among others, “Sweet Dreams” in 1985, “Music Box” in 1989, and “Blue Sky” in 1994. She was nominated for and won the Academy Award for Best Actress for the latter movie.
In the Broadway drama “A Streetcar Named Desire” in 1992, Lange starred opposite Alec Baldwin. Television broadcasts of “A Streetcar Named Desire,” in which Lange also starred, began in 1995. She loves playing on stage and made her London theatrical debut in Eugene O’Neill’s “Long Day’s Journey into Night” in 2000 as Mary Tyrone. She made a triumphant comeback to Broadway in 2005 with “The Glass Menagerie” by Tennessee Williams.
She has appeared in 37 films or other theatrical shows over the course of her acting career. She produced one movie, “Country,” in 1984, and has participated in more than 50 additional television shows, guest spots, and theater productions.
On April 20, 1949, Jessica Lange was born in Cloquet, Minnesota. Her mother was Finnish, and her father was of German and Dutch ancestry. Her father was a traveling salesman, therefore the family moved about a lot when she was little, so her home life must have been pretty unpredictable. From 1970 to 1981, Lange was married to Paco Grande. Alexandra, a child she had with Mikhail Baryshnikov, is hers.
