Early Life & Childhood

On October 29, 1987, in Stockholm, Sweden, Tove Lo was born Ebba Tove Elsa Nilsson to a psychologist mother and a businessman father. Because both of her parents were academics, she was raised in the affluent Djursholm suburban districts under the Danderyd Municipality, Stockholm County, Sweden, and received a good education.

Lo was an excellent student who consistently received good grades in all of her subjects. She developed a passionate interest in literature while attending school, which encouraged her to create her own poetry and short stories. Musical Career

Tove released her debut EP ‘Truth Serum’ in 2014, which talks about her intense love affair from the happy beginnings to the steps she took to move on after a breakup. Critics gave the electropop EP’s production and lyrics high marks.

The album peaked at number 13 in Sweden and number 8 on the Norwegian Albums Chart, making it the 49th best-selling record of 2014. The singles “Out of Mind,” “Habits (Stay High),” and “Out of Mind” all peaked at 39th place on the Finnish Airplay chart, third place on the Billboard Hot 100, and 13th place in Sweden, as well as top 10 places in New Zealand, Australia, and the United Kingdom.

In late 2014, Tove released her album “Queen of the Clouds,” which proved to be a commercial success, selling over 190,000 copies in the US.

Four platinum certificates were awarded to this album by the RIAA in the United States, ZPAV in Poland, GLF in Sweden, and Pro-Musica in Brazil. The song “Habits (Stay High)” won “Song of the Year” at the 2015 Grammis in Sweden and peaked at number three on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart.

After selling over two million downloads, the second single, “Talking Body,” peaked at number twelve on the US Billboard Hot 100, sixteen in Sweden, and seventeen in the UK charts. On the Swedish charts, the promotional single “Timebomb” peaked at number four.

In 2015 and 2016, Tove was featured on numerous singles by well-known artists, such as DJ Alesso’s hit song “Heroes (We Could Be)” from his album “Forever,” which peaked at number five in Sweden. 31st on the Billboard Hot 100 and 6th in the United Kingdom. She also made an appearance on the Urban Cone song “Come Back to Me,” which is taken from their album Polaroid Dreams.

She claimed that the femme fatale character Ammy Elliot-Dunne in the psychological thriller “Gone Girl”—who “goes from becoming a victim to a psycho”—was the inspiration for the song’s lyrics. Other tracks on the albums included Influence (featuring Wiz Khalifa), Fairy Dust, and True Disaster.

Then, in 2016, Lo uploaded her short film, “Fairy Dust,” to YouTube and Vevo. The first six tracks from her album Lady Wood are featured in this film. Tove is currently working on her third studio album, which she said will include the songs “Light Beam” and “Pitch Black.”

Songwriter Lo has penned more than seventy songs for other artists as well as for her albums and extended plays. Her song Heroes (We Could Be), which she wrote for Alesso, went on to become a hit in Sweden and the UK charts, earning two Platinum certifications in the process.

She co-wrote Ellie Goulding’s song “Love Me Like You Do,” which was featured in the movie “Fifty Shades of Grey.” The song peaked at number one on the UK Singles chart and came in at number three on the Billboard Hot 100.
